Loading Tips - Load Like a Professional Mover

Not too many people look forward to moving. The work and sweat involved is often times daunting. However, if you are not using a moving company and planning a self-service move, here are some loading tips that will ease the process and ensure your safety and that of your belongings.

Prerequisites/Supplies:

Here is a list of things you should consider before you get started...

Furniture Pads - Have an ample amount of furniture pads. Pad everything before you load them on the moving truck. The more padding you have the better. 6-8 dozen pads are recommended for a 24ft. moving truck.
Taping your Furniture - If you don’t have padding and want to tape your furniture, wrap the tape around the furniture with the sticky part on the outside, so that the tape does not stick to your furniture.
Furniture Dolly - This is quite necessary when moving
Clear Truck Floor - Clean the bed of the truck to prevent accidents while walking through.
One Person in Charge – one person in the truck at a time
Back the truck as close to the residences as possible for easy access to home
Belt buckles can scratch wood furniture – move your belt buckle to the side of your waist so you don’t scratch your furniture.
Wear clothes that do not have pockets so items don't get caught in your pockets

Loading the Truck:

Pad the bed of the truck so that your couches are not soiled.
Add Sofa/ love seats first – pack these items vertically.
Load the truck in levels from heaviest to lightest going from the bottom to the top of the truck.
Load in tiers going from the back of the truck all the way to the front. Each tier should be square with a generally smooth line of moving boxes/furniture cutting across the truck.
Pack the truck as tightly as possible so that furniture does not shift while in transit.
Light weight items are considered “floating items”. Add floating items to the top of pile.
Mattresses: Load mattresses in an upright position.
Add padded mirrors in from of mattresses.
Dressers: Pack your moving truck with the drawers facing the back of the truck.

James Cameron’s Avatar grossed a record breaking $2.7 billion worldwide. It is an understatement to say that the messages in this film resonated with many. Touching a sentiment of the world population, Avatar is arguably the best movie of all time.

Could the reason for its success be that the message of protecting nature and life in its most natural state is a sentiment that resonates deep within the American and world populations? In an era of technology, science and creative thinking, maybe a glimpse into the beauty of simplicity was just what the world needed in order to sit back, appreciate and consider how life was or would be like without technology and our inventions that have made us an “advanced” society.

Technology…iPods, computers, cars, cell phones and the like are designed to make things easier for us and life more convenient, however the responsibilities, time, and energy required to maintain these conveniences can sometimes be burdensome. With all the moving and shaking we do, I must say it was refreshing to consider how life might be as an Avatar, to stop and allow the natural progression of life to simply flow.

Avatar will be out on DVD Thursday, April 22, 2010 and we will all be able to sip from Pandora's cup at leisure.
